Signed Tony Lydgate wood box & black horn inlay box (from Gene Roddenberry estate)
Presented here from the Julien's Summer Sale (Julien's Auctions) are two decorative boxes (& catalog) from the Estate of Gene & Majel Roddenberry. It was held in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 27th, 2010 at Planet Hollywood.
The catalog alone sells for $50 and is wrapped-never been opened. Go to http://www.juliensauctions.com to flip the pages on line to see what is inside. See the black horn inlay box pictured on page 93 sitting on Mr Roddenberry's desk! Both boxes are pictured on page 99. There and the descriptor card here state 3 boxes but only 2 are pictured and delivered to us.
The smaller box is made from maple and rosewood. Inside, it is felt lined. It measures about 4 3/8 inches by 4 3/8 inches square and stands about 2 3/4 inches high. Under the lid is the inscription Tony Lydgate copyright symbol 1988. This box is free from any damage-no chips, dents, cracks, etc.
The larger hinged box is covered in black horn inlay. The wood is totally smooth but I do not know what type of wood it is made of. The inlay pattern is smooth inside and outside with no signs of lifting or damage. The hinges are very secure and tight. The bottom of this box is felt covered and has four 'foot' pads. This box measures about 11 inches by 7 inches by 4 inches tall. You may also have the 6 keys inside as described on the card & catalog. The inside appears to have something that looks like an old sticker on the bottom. A professional could suggest what to do to remove whatever this is.
